FULLY BOOKED

Join me in Anilao for a transformational underwater photography experience.

My workshop offers hands-on coaching, daily feedback, and a nurturing learning environment designed to help you create consistently sharp, well-composed, and storytelling macro images.

Together, we’ll unlock your creative potential and give you the skills to move from frustration to fantastic!

A journey of discovery!

This workshop is designed for passionate underwater photographers of all levels and camera types who are eager for hands-on coaching, detailed critique, and the chance to actively refine their underwater photography skills, no matter where they are on their underwater photography journey.

It’s a collaborative learning experience where you’ll work alongside other dedicated image-makers, sharing not just dive masters and critter sightings, but also ideas, insights, and techniques.

The focus of this workshop is to dive deep into the world of macro and critter photography. Expect lectures, personal 1:1 time with me, group image reviews, and a supportive team dynamic that encourages growth, experimentation, and creative exchange.

Master your creative edge!

This workshop is structured to give you practical skills you’ll use for life.

By the end of the workshop, you will be able to:

  • Instinctively know what camera settings to use and why – so that you can create tack-sharp images.
  • Use a Diopter: Fill the frame with your subject using a diopter to make your subject the star of the show
  • Control Lighting: Position your strobe(s) for creative and even lighting.
  • Master the Snoot: Properly use a snoot or snoot torch to light and isolate your subject.
  • Capture Beautiful Bokeh: Create images with beautiful bokeh backgrounds.
  • Use Creative Lighting Techniques: Use torches and accessories for creative underwater photos.
  • Compose Beautiful Shots: Create interesting and beautiful compositions – and how to tell stories with your images.
  • Develop Your Style: Establish your own style of macro underwater photography.

For the bold and the curious!

This workshop is for photographers who:

  • Want to learn, improve, and refine their underwater macro photography
  • Are open-minded, willing to trust the coaching process, and ready to implement new techniques even if they challenge existing habits
  • Are respectful, collaborative, and enjoy a positive group environment
  • Are keen to learn how to use their gear and capture amazing images
  • Are equipped with the necessary photography gear

Guided growth every step of the way!

This is how it works….

Pre-Trip Coaching Session

Your workshop begins before you even leave home with a 30-minute one-on-one Zoom coaching/Q&A session with me. I want you to arrive feeling confident and ready to immerse yourself in your macro underwater photography adventure!

Progressive Lessons

Each lesson will progressively build upon each other. Illustrated talks and hands-on, practical sessions will provide you with valuable advice and fresh ideas to try out on your next dives.

Image Review Sessions

Our 1:1 (private) and group image review sessions will help analyse the strengths of captured images and identify areas for improvement. Gain inspiration and suggestions from the work produced by other participants. This collaborative and supportive environment fosters growth and creativity.

Anilao – a macro wonderland!

In Anilao, you’ll find an astonishing variety of marine life, from classic favourites like frogfish, seahorses, and nudibranchs, to rarer gems like blue-ringed and mimic octopus, wonderpus, Rhinopias, and hairy frogfish.

And if you’re up for something completely different, blackwater and bonfire dives reveal alien-like creatures drifting through the darkness — many still unknown to science. These come as optional extra dives, and are worth trying out!

Diving in Anilao is relaxed, and done from small local boats (called bangkas). The water is a balmy 26–29°C, with visibility typically ranging between 12–18 metres. A 3mm wetsuit is perfect, though you might want a hood for longer dive days and night dives.

Accommodation

Your home in Anilao!

  • Meals are served “family style” in the vibrant dining area which is a great place to hang out, work on your computer, or check the IDs of the critters in your photos in between meals – it is the heart and hub of APA.
  • Meal times are a family affair, and give us the perfect opportunity to chat about our day, discuss problems, celebrate progresses and all the amazing creatures’s you’re going to photograph!
